Chanel coat from Karl Lagerfeld’s acclaimed Pre-Fall 2008 Métiers d’Art Paris–London collection. A showcase for the specialist craft ateliers preserved by Chanel, the show occupied what Vogue’s Sarah Mower described as a “sweet new spot of luxury between ready-to-wear and haute couture.” Paris–London became one of the most memorable and widely admired collections of Lagerfeld’s Chanel years, merging the house’s historic ties to British dress with the energy of contemporary London.

Amy Winehouse was a defining reference for the collection, then at the height of her cultural influence. Lagerfeld openly cited Winehouse as an inspiration, famously declaring, “She is the new Brigitte,” in comparison to Brigitte Bardot.

Mower singled out the collection’s “tweed coats with edges apparently tattered but actually detailed with rills of chiffon and feather.” This example is the long midi-length iteration of that distinctive coat design, also produced in a dramatic floor-length version shown on the runway.

Condition details: Excellent vintage condition overall. Exceptionally well preserved, with no significant stains, structural issues or damage observed. The tweed remains in excellent shape, with only occasional minor loose threads consistent with the nature of the weave. The grey silk lining is clean, intact and very well preserved. There are a few extremely small, fine openings in the sheer tulle, visible only upon close inspection and unobtrusive within the intentionally distressed construction of the trim.
